The Faribault County Recorder Office is a Federal Passport Agent.  Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm.  When applying for a passport allow at least ½ hour.

U.S. Passport Book

  • Valid for travel by air, sea or land
  • Valid 10 years for adults – 5 years for minors
  • Fees: $110 for adults / $80.00 for minors (under age 16) to U.S. Dept of State. $25.00 per person to Faribault County
  • Passport book renewal $110 for adults
  • Processing time four to six weeks
  • Expedited fee of $60 reduces processing time to three weeks
  • When expediting you may also need to send and receive your passport by express mail.  Express Mail is an additional fee based on current postal rates..

U.S. Passport Card

  • Not valid for travel by air.
  • Valid for land and sea crossings between the U.S. and Canada, Mexico, Bermuda, and the Caribbean only.
  • Valid 10 years for adults  - 5 years for minors
  • Fees: $30.00 for adults / $15.00 for minors (under age 16) to U.S. Dept. of State, $25.00 per person to Faribault County.
  • Cost for renewal of a U.S. Passport Card $30.00 for adults $15.00 for minors (by using DS-82)

You may apply for both the U.S. Passport Book and the U.S. Passport Card at the same time.  Cost for first time applicants:  Adults  $140  Minors  $95 to U.S. Dept of State + $25.00 fee per person to Faribault County.

How to apply and what you need

  • Each applicant must appear at our counter in person
  • Certified copy of Birth or a Previous Passport.  (A Hospital Record is not a certified copy of birth)  You will receive your Certified copy of birth and/or your previous passport back after your new  Passport application is processed, provided it has not been mutilated.
  • Two Identical Color Passport pictures taken within the last 6 months.  To avoid delays we suggest having these pictures professionally taken to meet Federal Passport Requirements.
  • Two separate checks
  • Valid Drivers License, please contact us for other acceptable ID
 

 

Applicants under age 18

  • Check to the Federal Passport Agency must be signed by a parent or guardian.

Applicants under age 16

  • As of February 1, 2008 the passport Two-Parent Consent Law will encompass all  children under the age of 16.  This means that passport agents will require the consent of both parents for children under age 16.
